Lesson 6 Activity:Create New Beliefs
As we learned in today’s lesson from Molly Watts, questioning our immediate thoughts about drinking can help us build new, more accurate and helpful thoughts.
Now it’s your turn! Write down at least one thought you automatically have when thinking about drinking alcohol. Spend some time challenging this thought, and replace it with a new, more accurate one.
For example:
Automatic Thought- “I need to drink to have fun.”
Challenging Thought- “There have been plenty of times during my life when I have had fun without drinking, especially before I was drinking as frequently as I am now. Being around friends and family and doing exciting things will be fun enough.”
New Thought- “I am a naturally fun person who has shown that they can have a good time without alcohol.”
