Lesson 9 Activity:Sitting With Uncomfortable Emotions

By Becky McBoom

One of the most difficult lessons I have had to learn on my abstinence journey is that sometimes I simply have to sit with uncomfortable emotions that I would normally drown in alcohol. Most of the time I can distract myself or engage in healthy activities that release positive endorphins. But sometimes this isn’t feasible, and I am forced to fully feel my feelings.

Your challenge today is to sit with one uncomfortable emotion when it arises. This could be boredom, stress, sadness, frustration, or any other emotion that would normally trigger you to drink. Take a few moments to reflect on how difficult or easy it is to sit with this emotion.
